Lasallian Projects of Ireland & Great Britain

As Lasallians the provision of education for the poor is central to what we do as we see it as the way out of poverty. To achieve this aim we build and improve educational facilities in in communities where poverty is rampant and where the literacy rate is very low. For the last 35 years Lasallian volunteers from the District have completed hundreds of projects both big and small in Asia and Africa thus making sure that education is provided for the poor, the marginalised, the downtrodden and those with little hope.

All our efforts and resources are concentrated on small regional areas to gain the optimum impact and a lasting positive result.

By setting up sustainable infrastructure we aim to make a difference to local communities in the long term. Every one of our projects are carefully planned and monitored so that we are sure that we are having a positive impact and making a difference in the education of the children in these local communities.

Every year different groups of energetic and enthusiastic volunteers join our projects to help make that difference to communities of people in Asia and Africa for whom a little counts a lot. Their work leaves a lasting impact on the people they work with and the children who have a chance to improve their lives through improved educational facilities.

Why should one join a Lasallian Project as a volunteer?

A volunteer gets the chance to:

  • Work on a project that has a lasting effect on the education of poor and disadvantaged children

  • Get to know the local community by working alongside the local people

  • Work as a member of a team

  • Get to know the culture of the area

  • Use their own skills. Numerous opportunities arise where one can teach children, use their IT, musical, sporting, cookery, artistic, medical and a myriad of other skills.

While volunteers may well set out with a focus on what they plan to do and give they usually return home knowing that they have received more than they have given.
