Basildon reflect on Pilgrims of Hope theme

Recently the Year 7s at De La Salle School Basildon went on retreat at school led by our diocesan youth service. They reflected on the theme of being Pilgrims of Hope. Our young people found it engaging and fun and our thanks go to Brentwood Catholic Youth Service for providing great ministry and service to our young people at De La Salle.

Weekly Mass

Our thanks go to Fr Paschal and Fr Jean-Claude Selvini, two of our diocesan priests who come in and celebrate Mass with us. Fr Paschal celebrates on a Tuesday Morning with all years, on a rotational basis, and Fr Selvini celebrates with the classes in Years 7 and 8.

George Brawn – Year 11

This year we nominated as a School, George Brawn, currently a year 11 pupil for the Brentwood Diocesan Citizenship Award for De La Salle School, who last summer saved a person’s life by talking them down from a bridge in Essex.

He ran to her aid and grabbed hold of her. After getting her away from the edge, George spoke to the woman for at least 15 minutes, defusing the situation before walking her away from the bridge in tears but safe.

“It was just really scary; it was so scary to go through and so unexpected”, George said. “On the bridge, it was just me and her and I walked her off the bridge; stayed with her for a couple of minutes and then she said that she would call her mum. She hugged me and thanked me and asked my name before telling me to go home. I am so glad she was/is ok”.

George received lots of commendations from the local community and school saying that he was a hero. In his words “He was in the right place at the right time.” He was able to help and be an outstanding young person for a person in need.

Well done George.
