Brother Alfred Calcutt Bursary recipients announced

The District of Ireland, Great Britain and Malta has launched the Brother Alfred Calcutt Bursary for Lasallian Studies. The Bursary scheme will enable successful applicants to deepen their understanding of Lasallian heritage and spirituality by attending one of the most enriching Formation programmes available in our global Lasallian Family—the Buttimer Institute of Lasallian Studies, held each summer for three years, at Manhattan University in New York.

We are delighted to share the excellent news that Emma Biggins, Director of St Cassian’s pastoral centre and Nic Mifsud, Headteacher at De La Salle College Junior school in Malta are the successful recipients of this inaugural Bursary.

Nic says,

“As someone who was formed at De La Salle College as a student and later as an educator, this bursary feels like a meaningful opportunity to give back. I’m excited to deepen my Lasallian Formation and to use what I learn to strengthen accompaniment, community, and mission for the students and staff entrusted to our care.”

On hearing the news, Emma responded,

“I am truly thankful to have been awarded the Brother Alfred Calcutt Bursary for Lasallian Studies. Receiving this bursary means a great deal to me, and I am grateful for the support and encouragement it represents. It will help me continue to grow in my understanding of the Lasallian mission and values, which I am passionate about. Thank you for this generous opportunity and for investing in my journey of learning and formation. This will have a great impact on my work, especially at St Cassian's Centre with the Volunteers and Retreat Team.”

Emma and Nic will join others in the District who, over the years, have benefitted from the rich experience of the Buttimer programme. We wish Emma and Nic every success on their new Lasallian Formation journey at the Buttimer Institute for Lasallian Studies and look forward to the insights they will share with us all as a result!

If you think this could be an opportunity that speaks to you then please take a look at the Brother Alfred Calcutt Bursary for Lasallian Studies brochure to familiarise yourself with this opportunity.  Applications will reopen in the Autumn term of 2026.

Live Jesus in our Hearts…Forever.
