Celebrating Concern for the Poor at St Margaret Ward

Each year staff and students from across the North Staffordshire Deanery, including St Margaret Ward, gather to celebrate our combined fundraising efforts for the Good Shepherd appeal for Father Hudson’s Caritas. Father Hudson’s provide a range of services to people across the Catholic Archdiocese of Birmingham, an area encompassing Oxford, Stoke-on-Trent, Coventry, Warwick, Worcester, and Wolverhampton.

They work with people from all walks of life including the elderly, homeless, asylum seekers and refugees. They offer friendship, care, and support. Throughout Lent our students have done various activities to fundraise for Father Hudson’s, including raffles, selling hot chocolate, and a non-uniform day. This showcases the best of our students, putting our Lasallian Values into practice, particularly that of Concern for the Poor. The Good Shepherd Mass was a wonderful way to celebrate the good work done.

The Mass was celebrated by Bishop Timothy Menezes, our new area Bishop for Stoke & North Staffordshire, he spoke about the importance of seeing each person we meet, and each person we help with our fundraising efforts, as a human being. He spoke of how beyond the labels that we put on people in our world, there is a person, with a story, who deserves our love and respect, a message we can all take to heart.
