De La Salle Macroom celebrate Founder’s Day

After what has been a very challenging year for staff and students alike a special treat was organised for our Founder’s Day at De La Salle College, Macroom.

The Founder’s Day celebration at the school is held on the Wednesday closest to May 15th and this year it took place on Wednesday May 12th where they commenced their day in a regular manner but it was interrupted mid-morning with the arrival of an ice cream van which provided treats to all students and staff in celebration of our Founder, but also in recognition of the efforts made by all in this most challenging of years.

The celebration Mass took place in St Colman’s Church in the town, as usual, but this year members of the school community had the opportunity to observe online due to Covid restrictions. Mass will began at 11.45am which was a little earlier than usual as this year the school also incorporated the graduation speeches which would previously been part of a separate ceremony.

This component commenced once the formal Mass had concluded and was followed by an afternoon of social and sporting activities on Friday May 14th for Leaving Certs which for many was their last day of attendance.

Finally the school engaged in a ‘Darkness into Light fundraiser’ on Saturday May 8th where many of the staff and students participated. This is of particular significance this year as the school has lost a member of staff tragically as have some students lost a parent in similar fashion.
