Finn’s dedication helps him achieve dream

De La Salle College student Finn Yore whose hard work and talent has earned him national recognition in his sport of athletics.

Finn competed in the Seefin Up Hill race on Friday the 12th of April last and also the Classic up and downhill race on Sunday the April 14th, winning both by comfortable margins. He was invited to compete in both races from his fantastic performance in the All-Ireland Schools Cross Country in March. This was a massive achievement for Finn as he is eligible to run U20 again next time. Both races were trial races to select an Irish team for the European off-road Running Championships, which are being held in Annecy, France, on the weekend of May 31st to June 2nd.

The icing on the cake came for Finn on Monday  April 15th when he received a letter stating he was selected on the Irish Team for both races. This will be Finn’s first international competition and all at West Muskerry A.C. are extremely proud.

He has been making steady progress in his running this year finishing in 4th place in the Munster U16 Cross Country and 6th place in the Munster U17 Cross Country, reaching the All-Ireland in both age groups and winning the silver medal as part of the Cork U17 team.  His ultimate dream was to represent his Country one day, and now his dream is becoming a reality, and he is heading to France, representing his Country to compete with the best in Europe.

Well done to Finn Yore, an outstanding athlete, doing his family and West Muskerry A.C. proud. Finn is dedicated to his sport and achievements like this are going to become a regular we have no doubt

Healthy lifestyle

A nurse from the Marie Keating foundation gave an excellent presentation to the Second Year students on healthy lifestyle choices. She spoke about the risks associated with vaping, smoking, alcohol, unhealthy eating and skin damage from the sun.

Irish books

First Year students were checking out the lovely selection of Irish books available to rent from the school library

 Barcelona trip

After a very early 3am start, the Fourth Years enjoyed a bus tour of Barcelona after landing in Spain. Firstly, the bus stopped off at the Olympic Village and city view point. The sun came out as the students then got to enjoy a walking tour around the famous la Sagrada Familia, which is still being built after 137 years.

Finally, before heading for dinner in the hotel, students really enjoyed spending time exploring CosmoCaixa science museum, a great place for students with a curious mind! It had excellent interactive displays and experiments mixed with some exotic animals in the rainforest exhibit.
