Over 1500 take part in Lasallian Awards 2021

The Lasallian Awards initiative was recently introduced and thanks to the efforts of the organisers, it proved to be very popular with schools across the District.

The idea was the result of the collaboration of all three Mission Committees, the District Mission Council and the District Young Lasallian Council, and after weeks of great effort across the District, it culminated in the awards ceremony during the online Founder’s Day celebration on Friday May 14th.

Images of a selection of the participants and their entries were displayed during the ceremony and it was revealed that a total of 1565 entries were received from District schools, comprising 230 Gold Awards, 208 Silver Awards and 1127 Bronze Awards. All participants were entered in a draw for a prize in each category.

Sian Thomas selected the Bronze Award winner who was a student at De La Salle Jersey, while Peter Mari of De La Salle College Churchtown was announced as the Silver Award winner by Cian O Naraigh. Finally, Keane Palatino selected the name of Jayden Bilson-Jonfiah from St Joseph’s College, Beulah Hill, as the Gold Award winner.

The aim of the Lasallian Awards initiative was to raise awareness of the Lasallian Ethos among the students and the rest of the educational communities at Lasallian ministries, especially with those student cohorts which have been impacted with the COVID-19 restrictions due to cancellations or postponement of programmes and events aimed at introducing them to and/or strengthening their Lasallian Identity.

It also aimed to raise awareness about the 5 Core Principles across all ministries in the District of Ireland, Great Britain and Malta. (The 5 Core Principles are the foundation on which a number of current and future projects for Lasallian student formation are based).

Added to that was the desire to compile a repository of new creative Lasallian content which can be enjoyed and used by different groups moving forward, and to foster a sense of cohesion, shared purpose, and unity across the District at all levels.
