Road Safety
TY Road Safety students experienced the impact of beer and drug goggles in class today — a powerful way to understand the dangers of driving under the influence.
An eye-opening and engaging lesson promoting safe choices on the road!
Congratulations to Finn Yore
A huge congratulations to Fifth Year student, Finn Yore, on his incredible achievement representing Ireland at the World Mountain & Trail Running Championships in Canfranc-Pirineos, Spain.
Competing among 1,700 athletes from 70 countries in the stunning Pyrenees, Finn showcased his remarkable talent, determination, and endurance on the world stage.
We are so proud of Finn’s success — an outstanding accomplishment and an inspiration to all at De La Salle.
Young Scientists
We’re thrilled to announce that 5 DLS students have qualified for this year’s Stripe Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition.
Fifth Years, Riordan O’Driscoll and Jack O’Donoghue are tackling farm safety with their project “Eco: Designing a safer alternative to manhole covers in a slated slurry tank.” Their innovative design aims to significantly reduce accidents on farms caused by people falling into slurry tanks.
William Murray, a Fourth Year student, is investigating “Shrink in cattle transport and how it can best be minimised.” His project explores where weight loss in cattle transport comes from and how it can be reduced to save farmers money and improve animal welfare.
Fourth Years, Peter King and Michael Kelleher are exploring “Does water weaken UV protection in swimwear?” Their study examines whether wetness reduces the UV protection of swimwear fabrics — vital research for sun safety awareness.
Huge congratulations to all our students on their creativity, innovation, and commitment to science and technology. We’re so proud to see De La Salle represented at this year’s Stripe Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition.
Wellbeing Week
To mark Wellbeing Week, our students created a beautiful Gratitude Tree filled with messages about what they’re thankful for in life.
Maths Week Fun
It’s been a busy week for our Maths Department as students across the school took part in a range of puzzles, riddles, and challenges to celebrate Maths Week 2025!
Congratulations to our “Sweets in the Jar” winners — William Burke and Luke Kelly, who guessed closest to the correct number.
A big well done also to our Daily Maths Riddle winners throughout the week — your problem-solving skills were top-notch.
Thank you to everyone who got involved and made Maths Week such a fun and engaging success.
Student Achievement Spotlight
A huge well done to Third Year student, Alex Sheehan, who recently showed great initiative by entering an international short story competition.
His entry, “First Dates,” was highly recommended by the judges, earning well-deserved recognition for his creativity and talent.
We are incredibly proud of our young author and have no doubt that this is just the beginning of many future successes for this talented Macroom writer.
Lasallian Visit
We were delighted to welcome Brother Tommy Walsh and Eunan Whyte, Communications Officer for the Lasallian schools, to De La Salle on Tuesday, 14 October.
They brought along a copy of Reflections on a Lasallian Journey — a beautiful new book compiled by Eunan Whyte, Pat Walsh, Brother Terry Collins and Brother Laurence Hughes.
Brother Tommy and Eunan met with school management, staff from our Animation Committee, and our fantastic 5th Year Student Lasallian leaders for a chat full of reflection, inspiration, and Lasallian spirit.
TY Students Interview Local TD
Our Fourth Year students — Michael Kelleher, Seán Kelleher, Ryan Mahumutsha, and Oliwier Krzepina — had the fantastic opportunity to sit down with local TD Aindrias Moynihan for an insightful interview recently.
The lads discussed a range of topics, from local community issues to national policies, gaining a real understanding of how politics works at both local and national levels. It was a great chance for them to put their communication and research skills into practice.
A big thank you to Deputy Moynihan for giving his time and engaging so openly with our students.
