The Lasallian Family of Ireland, Great Britain and Malta Celebrates Founder’s Day 2025

The 15th of May, Founder’s Day, is always a special day for the Lasallian Family. Around the District schools, centres and Brother’s Communities hosted events to celebrate the feast of our Holy Founder, St. John Baptist de La Salle.

The theme of Founder’s Day this year was Lasallians: Agents of Hope for the Future which aligned with the theme of this Jubilee Year: Pilgrims of Hope in the Church. The theme was carried through the week of the 12th-16th of May with schools and pastoral centres invited to shared reflection and activities during Founder’s/Vocations Week. Resources provided by the District Vocations Commission offered school and pastoral centre communities the chance to reflect deeply on the theme as well as celebrate “agents of hope” in the world and Lasallian Family today. These efforts aim to foster a Culture of Vocations in our schools and pastoral centres which continues to be a call from our global Lasallian Family.

On Thursday the 15th of May, 2025 the Lasallian Family of the District gathered for our annual online prayer and celebration of the Lasallian Awards. With close to one hundred groups and individuals from schools, pastoral centres, Brother’s Communities and other Lasallians gathering on Zoom for the event the spirit of One La Salle was celebrated. The event, organised by the District Vocations Commission and supported by the team at LS Media, offered those gathered the chance to hear from our Visitor, Brother Ben Hanlon, as well as a variety of voices of Lasallian educators, volunteers and students. There was also a keynote delivered Brother Jorge Sierra from the District of ARLEP. Brother Jorge invited all those gathered to consider what small acts, little by little, they can do to become agents of hope in their communities. This moment of prayer and community helped to continue to foster our shared Lasallian Identity.

A highlight of the online prayer was the annual celebration of our Lasallian Awards. This year, 1800 young people from across schools in the District completed activities which brought to life the 5 Core Principles of a Lasallian School. There was a range of activities including students working together as a class to develop their sense of team work and belonging; kind hearted students write letters to the sick or elderly; a wide range of creative pieces produced which illustrate Faith in the presence of God and being an Inclusive community. The Lasallian Awards also featured wonderful acts of kindness and solidarity with those in our local and wider communities.

For the prize draw for the Lasallian Awards, we had over 1000 entries for Bronze. The winner was from De La Salle School, St Helens.

There was a sweep from La Salle Malta with students from St Benild taking Gold and the Youngest Lasallian Award, a student from Stella Maris Senior School for Platinum, and De La Salle Junior school taking Silver.

Huge congratulations to all who took part in the Lasallian Awards and a special thanks go to the educators who work tirelessly to animate the Awards in school.

The Lasallian Family looks forward to our next Founder’s Day celebration on the 14th of May, 2026!
