The La Salle for Ukrainians Appeal has been a huge success with the Lasallian Family once again responding with great generosity

Right across the District of Ireland, Great Britain and Malta, Lasallians are doing their bit to help those affected by the war in Ukraine, including the Community in Castletown in Co Laois.

On Wednesday 6th April over 400 boys from De La Salle took part in the College’s Island Walk. The Island Walk is an annual charity fundraising event founded in 1960.

The District of Ireland, Great Britain and Malta took another significant step forward as it continues to make progress in the efforts to sustain and strengthen the Lasallian Mission in our schools and pastoral centres, with the completion of the series of Ethos Evaluation and Strategy Webinars.

St Gerald’s De La salle College, Castlebar, turned on the style for the visit of Acting Brother Visitor, Ben Hanlon, recently. Br Ben was given a very warm welcome by all in the school and very much enjoyed his day with staff and students.

This year’s District Lenten Retreat was led by the St Helen’s Community and held over three days in March, commencing on March 8th and concluding on March 22nd.

At Stella Maris Junior School, students are continuing to learn and live the Five Core Principles with a number of initiatives including, Seeds for Students Scheme, World Down Syndrome Day, World Water Day, La Salle for Ukrainians, The Meaning of Lent and the visit of Br. Chris Patino.

De La Salle School, St Helens, continue to be very active on a number of fronts and in recent weeks they have connected with colleagues in De La Salle, Jersey, to remember the people of Ukraine, while they are also in the process of getting ready to welcome the new members of the 1719 society.

The final session of the Online Lasallian Induction Programme was delivered on Tuesday March 22nd, with the presentation on ‘Lasallian Community’ bringing a very successful initiative to a conclusion.

It has been a busy term of faith-based activities at St Margaret Ward Catholic Academy, with events including Ash Wednesday Liturgies, and marking the beginning of Lent while, there have been fundraising activities and Lent Prayer Challenge.

A special Mass was celebrated on the occasion of the entombment of the remains of Brother Louis Camilleri F.S.C., in the chapel of Stella Maris College, as part of the beatification and canonisation process.

Schools throughout the District constantly busy ensuring that the Lasallian message is prominent throughout their buildings and in De La Salle College, Macroom, they have been updating their displays.

Retreat work at Benildus Pastoral Care centre continues apace. The removal of masks has most definitely benefited the experience of both student and facilitator alike although it has unfortunately increased the risk of contracting Covid, which brings its own concerns and logistic considerations.

At De La Salle Retreat Centre, Castletown, we have been blessed with many days of wonderful spring sunshine over the past few weeks and the brightness outside has been mirrored inside by the vibrancy of the students.

De La Salle College celebrated Catholic School’s week this year from January 24th – February 1st. This Year’s theme was ‘Living Life to the full’.

St Joseph’s College, Beulah Hill, have enjoyed an eventful few weeks and among the highlights were the visit of Br. Chris Patino from the United States, and events to celebrate International Women’s Day.

As a result of our ‘Yellow and Blue Day’ at De La Salle High School, Downpatrick, in support of Ukrainian refugees, the school raised a total of £1,110.

Brother Sudheer, who has been named principal of De La Salle Colleges in Keesara, Andhra Pradesh State, India, has provided in update on recent activities, including efforts to including the steps taken to promote more admissions to the school.

The Lasallian Family at St Benildus College are making the most of the easing of restrictions with a wide variety of activities taking place over recent weeks.
