A Call for Applications – Volunteers and Youth Ministry Coordinator
The District of Ireland, Great Britain and Malta invites applications from outstanding candidates with the requested qualifications and experience for the post of Volunteers and Youth Ministry Coordinator.
The successful candidate for this post will be joining a dynamic team at the Office of Mission and will collaborate extensively with committed Lasallians who serve on Animation Teams, Committees, Councils and NGOs across the District. The Volunteers and Youth Ministry Coordinator will be entrusted with developing, promoting and sustaining programmes and resources for young people in the District, with particular attention to volunteering, faith formation, leadership development, critical citizenship and social justice.
The Volunteers and Youth Ministry Coordinator will also gradually assume responsibility for coordinating Lasallian Projects in Great Britain (LP-GB) and Lasallian Projects in Ireland (LP-EI), ensuring a vibrant range of local and international service-oriented short-term and long-term volunteering opportunities for young people in Ireland, Great Britain and Malta.
The Volunteers and Youth Ministry Coordinator is a full-time position within the District. The Coordinator serves in the Office of Mission and reports to the Director of Mission. Secondment will be considered if its conditions satisfy the key requirements for the role. Appropriate induction, mentoring, and formation will be provided, especially in the first year.
Main responsibilities:
The successful candidate, as a valued member of the Office of Mission team, will develop, implement, and evaluate youth ministry and volunteer programmes and resources across the District, while fostering a culture of vocation, service, faith, and leadership among young people.
The role will develop over time and be shaped in response to District priorities and capacity. Initial emphasis will be placed on relationship-building, listening, and consolidation rather than full delivery across all areas. The role prioritises direct engagement with young people and volunteers. Administrative responsibilities will be kept proportionate and supportive of mission delivery.
The successful candidate will also be expected to work collaboratively in supporting other projects and initiatives of the Office of Mission, contributing flexibly to emerging needs as agreed with their supervisor.
Description of Responsibilities:
In the area of Youth Ministry and Formation, the successful candidate will:
Develop, support the implementation, and where appropriate implement programmes, initiatives and resources in schools and ministries that support the faith formation of young people and nurture their capacity for leadership, critical citizenship and social justice.
Strengthen networks and initiatives of the Young Lasallian movement, ensuring alignment with the District Mission Assembly outcomes.
Provide opportunities for students to engage in retreats, immersion experiences, and formation gatherings.
Support and collaborate with chaplains, teachers, and animators involved in youth faith development.
Support and collaborate with the various retreat teams (linked to the District network of Pastoral Centres) in their efforts of outreach into Lasallian schools, other schools and the community at large.
In the area of Volunteering, the successful candidate will:
Gradually assume a coordinating and liaison role in relation to Lasallian Projects in Great Britain (LP-GB) and Lasallian Projects in Ireland (LP-EI), working in partnership with existing governance and administrative structures. Priority will be given to Lasallian Projects, GB
Promote volunteering opportunities across the District (including the Volunteer programme at St Cassian’s Centre, Kintbury and other District initiatives that may emerge), within the District of Ireland, Great Britain and Malta, the Region of Europe (RELEM), and internationally.
Build partnerships with schools and ministries to encourage participation in volunteering as a natural expression of Lasallian Mission and Vocation.
In collaboration with the Lasallian Vocations and Association Coordinator, nourish spaces of vocational discernment within a broad Culture of Vocation for present and past volunteers of the various Lasallian groups and projects;
Develop structures for preparing, accompanying, and supporting volunteers before, during and after their experiences.
In the area of Networking and Collaboration, the successful candidate will:
Collaborate with the Director of Formation and others in the Office of Mission to ensure coherence and integration between youth ministry, volunteering, efforts at promoting a culture of vocation, and formation.
Liaise with Regional and International Lasallian networks to promote opportunities and share best practice.
Serve as a resource person to schools, youth groups, and District initiatives related to volunteering and youth engagement.
The successful candidate, as a valued member of the team within the Office of Mission, and in collaboration with the Director of Formation, will:
Coordinate activities of the District Young Lasallians Council.
The successful candidate’s employment will be subject to:
Reference Checks;
Compliance with Lasallian, statutory and Diocesan formation/training guidelines across the District, including those related to GDPR, negligence, sexual abuse, sexual harassment, and the safety and protection of children;
Completion of all necessary safeguarding and background checks in all countries of the District;
Entitlement, ability and intention to lawfully live and work in Ireland or UK or Malta while in post.
Place of Work: The role involves extensive travel, primarily within the District. This will include days away from home, occasionally at weekends and sometimes during school holiday periods. While travelling, the postholder will usually be able to work from one of the Institute properties within the District (e.g., 140 Banbury Road, Oxford, UK; or Elderview Drive, Castletown, Co. Laois, Ireland). At different times of the year, the postholder will be required to work at other locations within and beyond the District, as necessary.
The successful candidate should already be based in, or willing to relocate and work lawfully in Ireland, UK or Malta.
Hours of Work: The successful candidate’s hours of work are those required to carry out her/his duties to the satisfaction of the Trustees and as necessitated by the needs of the post, which are maybe more acute during some holiday periods. Breaks will comply with current statutory Working Time Regulations.
Remuneration: Depends upon previous experience and will reflect the coordinating nature of the role. As a guideline, the salary package is in the range of €47,000 – €61,000 / £41,000 - £53,000 per annum. The final salary will be determined based on the candidate’s qualifications, relevant experience, and level of responsibility undertaken within the role.
