Another brilliant week Men’s Shed for Belfast students
Students from De La Salle College Belfast continue to engage with the local Colin Men’s Shed as part of their Lasallian Leavening Fund project.
This time the boys were invited into the Shed’s own home turf — the mighty Colin Shed — and it did not disappoint. The lads got their hands stuck into baking, learning how to make proper West Belfast scones… and honestly, is there anything better than a homemade West Belfast scone?
To be fair, the scones were so good the boys didn’t even bother slicing them in half — butter and jam straight on top like a construction project, and they were demolished in seconds. No crumbs survived.
We also got a brilliant tour of the allotment, hearing all about how the Shed grows, maintains, and works together on the plot.
As a result, the dream is now to have a La Salle plot of our very own
A place the men and boys can maintain together — learning skills, building confidence, and growing something as a team.
It was another fantastic afternoon of baking, craic and conversation. And judging by the talent on display, we definitely have a few young bakers with a big future ahead of them in the kitchen.
Huge thanks again to the Colin Men’s Shed for the welcome — we’re already looking forward to the next visit.
