Celebrating Founder’s Day in St Helens

De La Salle School St Helens celebrated the Feast of St John Baptist de La Salle with joy, reflection, and a real sense of community. From joining the district-wide Zoom celebration and cheering on our very own Lasallian Award winner to our Afternoon Tea, it was a week full of proud moments. Whether it was coming together for prayer, sharing talents, or enjoying a warm bowl of soup, we truly lived out the spirit of our Founder.

One of the highlights was when our school community came together to celebrate the Feast Day of St John Baptist de La Salle with a very special event: our Founder's Day Afternoon Tea. In the true spirit of our Lasallian values, we opened our doors wide to welcome local community members, families, and friends for an afternoon filled with warmth, talent, and togetherness.

The celebration was brought to life through the efforts of our incredible students, who took the lead in every aspect of the day. Whether serving as Front of House, working Back of House, or entertaining on stage, our student team helped ensure the event ran smoothly and joyfully from start to finish. Guests were treated to a delightful Makers Market Stall hosted by the Ethical Craft Club, where handmade, sustainable goods were on display. Meanwhile, our open mic created a heartfelt and inspiring atmosphere, giving students a chance to share their gifts and talents in a special way.

No celebration is complete without delicious food, and our staff certainly delivered! The afternoon tea featured an array of homemade baked goods lovingly prepared by our fantastic staff team. A standout favourite was the leek and potato soup—so delicious that many guests returned for second helpings or even took some home to share with family.

One particularly touching moment came from Mary, a 90-year-old guest who told us it was her first visit to De La Salle. She made it clear it wouldn’t be her last, promising to return next time with even more friends in tow.

We were also deeply moved to receive a heartfelt email from a parent who thanked the school for the kindness her mother was shown by students during her visit. Stories like these are a true testament to the character and compassion of our student leaders across every year group of the school!

As the day came to a close, a number of staff members joined the gathering for a well-earned cup of tea after a busy day of teaching—a great sign of the community spirit that we’ve been so blessed to see during our fundraising efforts! Thank you to everyone who made this afternoon so memorable. Our Founder's Day Tea was not just a celebration of our past, but a shining example of the values we hold dear today: hospitality, community, creativity, and care.
