Celebrating Lent and preparing for Holy Week at Stella Maris
Lent is a deeply meaningful time for students at Stella Maris College, marking the final days of Jesus Christ’s life, including His passion, death, and resurrection. For us Stelle Marians, Holy Week holds special importance as it reflects the values of faith, service, and community that are central to our identity.
It is a time to pause, reflect, and grow closer to God through prayer, reflection, and acts of compassion. At our college, we embraced the spirit of the up-and-coming Holy Week through a day-long celebration that brought together students, teachers, and families. One of the highlights was our Open Day, where we welcomed visitors to explore our school, learn about our programme, and witness the vibrant life of our Lasallian community.
In addition, during the Quaresima, the students of Grade 7 and 8, together with members of staff, performed a moving pageant that reenacted the events of Holy Week, capturing the emotions and sacrifices of Jesus’s journey to the cross. Through powerful storytelling and heartfelt performances, the pageant reminded us of the true meaning of Easter.
The day also featured a beautiful celebration of Mass, bringing our community together in worship and gratitude. A solemn procession followed, led by students carrying a newly crafted clay cross — over 1.5 metres long — designed and made entirely by students as a symbol of unity, creativity, and devotion. This powerful representation of Christ’s journey reminded us of the strength of our faith and the importance of walking together as a Lasallian family during this sacred season.
Spending the whole day together as a community allowed us not only to celebrate our faith, but also to strengthen our bonds as a Lasallian family. This special celebration served as a beautiful expression of our shared belief in hope, love, and the importance of walking in faith together.
