Churchtown students cherish Founder’s legacy

In the spirit of creativity and exploration, first-year students at De La Salle College Churchtown have taken a deep dive into the heart of their heritage. The Lasallian competition, a vibrant showcase of young talent, was recently held.

The theme of this year’s competition was 'Our Lasallian World'. This event not only highlighted the students' understanding of their Lasallian roots but also offered them a platform to express their insights in a multitude of creative forms.

The competition, a part of the Religious Education classes, encouraged students to explore the rich legacy of the Lasallian educational movement. Founded by St. John Baptist de La Salle, this movement has been a beacon of inclusive and innovative education worldwide.

Students were tasked with creating projects that reflected the values, traditions, and global impact of the Lasallian community. The range of entries was as diverse as it was impressive, spanning posters, digital presentations, poetry, music, and even rap!

The challenge set forth was not just an academic exercise but a journey into the heart of what it means to be part of the Lasallian family. The variety of the projects submitted showcased not just the creativity of the students but also their deep engagement with the theme. Whether it was through the rhythm of a rap or the visual impact of a digital presentation, each entry was a unique lens on the Lasallian world.

These projects were then submitted to the Panel, made up of De La Salle Brothers and lay staff at the De La Salle Headquarters in Castletown, tasked with the challenging job of judging the entries. The anticipation amongst the students is palpable, as the winners and certificate recipients will be announced on May 17th, the Founder’s Day of De La Salle.

This day not only marks the celebration of St. John Baptist de La Salle's contribution to education and society but also serves as a beacon of inspiration for the young Lasallians at Churchtown.

The Lasallian competition is more than just an academic endeavour; it is a testament to the enduring spirit of the Lasallian educational philosophy – one that fosters creativity, encourages personal growth, and cultivates a sense of community. As De La Salle College Churchtown awaits the announcement of the winners, it is clear that each participant, through their engagement and creativity, has already embodied the true essence of what it means to be Lasallian.

This initiative not only reinforces the importance of heritage and community but also highlights the role of education in shaping thoughtful, creative, and compassionate individuals. The Lasallian competition has undoubtedly left an indelible mark on the hearts and minds of the first-year students, propelling them toward a future where they carry forward the legacy of St. John Baptist de La Salle with pride.
