Lasallian Bookworm Challenges at DLS Junior School
This year’s Lasallian Bookworm Challenges once again bring colour, creativity, and excitement to the De La Salle College Malta Junior School as we continue nurturing a lifelong love of reading. A few years ago, we launched the Lasallian Bookworm Facebook page to motivate young readers by posting fun weekly challenges. Since then, the initiative has grown beyond our expectations, becoming a cherished tradition within our Lasallian community.
Each week, students are invited to take part in a themed reading challenge and upload photos of themselves completing it, often accompanied by a short caption. This year’s posters, filled with beloved storybook characters from brave archers and mischievous fairies to familiar friends from classic tales, capture the imagination of our young readers and guide them in choosing books that spark joy and curiosity.
Challenges such as “Select and read a book with a character who appears on this poster,” “Read a book with a colour in the title,” and “Read outside a garden or park”, encourage students to explore new genres, settings, and reading habits. These tasks are simple yet meaningful, helping children discover that reading is not just an academic skill but an enjoyable part of everyday life.
More than just an educational project, the Bookworm initiative has become a community-building effort that families, educators, and students look forward to each year. It celebrates creativity, promotes literacy, and strengthens our shared identity as Lasallians—curious, joyful, and always eager to learn.
