Malta hosts memorable and inspirational ASSEDIL Congress
La Salle Malta, the network of Lasallian Colleges in Malta, once again illustrated the strength of the Mission in our District and the huge contribution we make to the to the Lasallian Family when hosting the 26th Annual Congress of ASSEDIL from Wednesday, 23rd April to Saturday, 26th April 2025.
The event was held at Stella Maris College, Gżira, and brought together over 120 educational leaders from Lasallian universities, schools, and institutions across Europe, the Mediterranean, and the Middle East.
The superb organisation of the Congress, combined with the passion, dedication and renowned hospitality of all those involved, ensured that this was a truly memorable and inspiring event for everyone who attended.
ASSEDIL, the Association of Lasallian Educational Leaders, is a key platform for collaboration and exchange among leaders committed to the Lasallian educational mission in the region, and this year’s Congress explored the theme: “Growing Together in Lasallian Spirituality,” highlighting the importance of shared faith, values, and service in education.
Inspired by Saint John Baptist de La Salle, patron saint of educators, the De La Salle Brothers and their lay partners provide a human and Christian education to millions of children and young people worldwide, particularly those on the margins of society. The Congress provided an opportunity for reflection, formation, and renewal of commitment to this vital mission.
During the first day of the Congress District Auxiliary Visitor Br Michael Curran gave a special presentation on the great variety of initiatives within our District that see us nurture the Lasallian Mission.
Over the course of the four days the Congress featured workshops and discussions on spirituality practices from classrooms across our Lasallian region, while Br William Mann spoke about Spirituality at the heart of the Lasallian Educational Mission.
There was also time for participants to bond on a more social level during a cultural visit to Valletta and a visit to De La Salle College Birgu.
A special highlight of the Congress was a Mass celebrated by His Excellency the Auxiliary Bishop of Malta Monsignor Joseph Galea Curmi on Friday, 25th April, during which he gave an inspirational homily.
The Congress concluded on Saturday, 26th April with an address by the Superior General of the De La Salle Brothers, Brother Armin Luistro.
Sincere thanks to all participants for these days of reflection on spirituality as the deep well of nourishment, giving life to our deep commitment to our students and staff.
Sincere thanks to everyone involved in organising this congress , especially the many volunteers from Malta who gave up some of their holidays to help out in such an event.
We look forward to ASSEDIL 2026 in Germany.
