Retirees honoured for contribution to Lasallian Mission

The second annual Retiree Event took place in Castletown on the last weekend in April to honour of all the retirees who have contributed greatly over the years to the functioning of our Lasallian schools in Ireland and who have provided an outstanding quality education to thousands of students.

A feature of this year’s event was the attendance of those who had retired from Miguel House, De La Salle Monastery and the De La Salle Retreat Centre and who were thanked for their work in caring for the Brothers and catering to the needs of all those who had reason to come to the De La Salle Centre in Castletown.

On the Saturday morning Brother Tom Walsh welcomed everyone and updated the gathering on current happenings in the Lasallian world, the District and especially in the Lasallian centres in Ireland.

All new attendees were then presented with certificates which acknowledged their support and dedication over many years to the Lasallian mission. The gathering then discussed the possibility of writing a book about their great Lasallian Memories a work which will commence over the coming months.

In the afternoon the retirees had many options and many decided to go on a short walk in the Slieve Bloom Mountains. The event ended with a beautiful Mass.

It was a very relaxing and pleasant affair enjoyed by all who attended and one person summed it up when he referred to it as a great event where we renewed our belonging to the Lasallian spirit.
