De La Salle College Malta students bid a fond farewell
The farewell for the Form 5 students at De La Salle was a memorable celebration filled with joy, reflection, and a strong sense of community. The day began on a solemn and spiritual note with a Mass dedicated to Our Lady of Sorrows, where students, staff, and teachers came together to give thanks, reflect, and pray for the graduating students’ future paths.
From there, the atmosphere turned lively and energetic as the real celebration began. A much-anticipated basketball match between teachers and students kicked off the festivities. The friendly competition brought laughter, cheering, and plenty of school spirit, highlighting the strong bond between staff and students.
The Fifth Formers were then treated to special gifts, including pens with motivational quotes, a small yet meaningful token to carry with them as they embark on the next chapter of their lives. There were also some sweet treats to enjoy – because no farewell is complete without a little indulgence.
One of the most engaging activities of the day was a treasure hunt that took the students on a nostalgic tour around the school. In teams, they followed clues and took photos with iconic and meaningful spots around De La Salle, turning the campus into a living scrapbook of memories.
As the day drew to a close, another exciting challenge awaited – a football match between students and teachers. Just like the basketball game, it was a mix of playful competition and heartfelt moments, ending the day on a high note.
The farewell was not just a celebration; it was a tribute to the years spent together, a thank-you to the teachers, and a send-off to the Form 5s who are now ready to take their next steps beyond the school gates. It was a day full of laughter, emotion, and lasting memories – truly a De La Salle farewell to remember.
German students
Recently our Form 4 German students had the opportunity to participate in a hands-on workshop organised by Goethe Institute. It was a great opportunity for them to communicate in German with other students their age and to learn more about a new platform called “Destinazione Deutsch” where students can practise and improve their German skills in an interactive way. It was a fun-filled day and the students really enjoyed the games and activities. Well done boys!
New skills
Between the 7th and 11th April, two of our educators, Ms. Jana Brown and Ms. Josianne Grech had the opportunity to explore Dubrovnik’s rich heritage and dive into AI tools like ChatGPT, BRISK, and Quizizz. This course has been an incredible mix of culture, collaboration, and hands-on learning. Grateful for the new skills, meaningful connections, and unforgettable experiences along the way. They can’t wait to share the knowledge and insights they have gained with their colleagues and students!
Our Lady of Sorrows
During the week of Our Lady of Sorrows the students of all Form 1 classes, led by their Religion teacher Mr David L. Aquilina, visited the artistic wooden and papier-mache statues of the Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ venerated in the Collegiate Church of the Immaculate Conception, Cospicua, beautifully decorated with black damask. The black damask represents the hour of shadows in which our salvation took place.
They also visited the unique velvet clothed Passion statues of the Collegiate Church of Saint Laurence Deacon and Martyr, Vittoriosa. Of particular importance is the Relic of the Holy Face of Our Lord Jesus Christ together with relics of saints venerated in this Collegiate Church. This precious reliquary made of silver was brought from Rhodes by the Knights of St John in 1530. This reliquary is taken out in the Black Procession in the streets of Vittoriosa on Spy Wednesday night during Holy Week.
Whilst viewing the Passion statues, the teacher helped the students reflect on the last hours of Our Lord Jesus Christ's life and shared some moments of prayer.
Heritage Malta
On Wednesday 9th April Form 3 Green and Form 3 White attended Heritage Malta’s launch of the new graphic novel: The Cursed Thief; a series of heritage trials; and, were introduced to the new character Filomena on the interactive portal Tales of Kottonera. The students were provided with a pack so that they can start exploring the Cottonera.

Chess
On the 11th of April, three teams of students from Forms 2 to 4 took part in the Interschools Chess Qualifiers, competing against 50 teams from various schools across the island. The tournament was highly competitive, with only the top six teams earning a place in the Interschools Chess Finals this May.
We are very proud to share that two of our teams have successfully placed in the top six and have qualified for the finals!
Congratulations to all our players for representing the school with such commitment and skill.
Future thinking
During the week 28th April to 2nd May, Nathan Ellul, Peter Magro and Daniel Henderson attended a course in Lisbon on Future Thinking. This experience offered the opportunity to tackle issues related to planning for future issues and using activities involving critical thinking with students.
There was also the opportunity to visit a FabLab and observe a place where people of all ages can experiment and come up with projects for the future, with a platform to improve and develop their ideas.
Through this fruitful learning experience, they were able to bring back various ways and means not only to improve as teachers going forward but to also allow students to constantly think ahead and keep their future in mind at all times, through experimentation and learning from mistakes.
History
Form 4 History Option students are currently discussing the 1835 and 1849 Constitutions: their causes, Maltese representation, Governor power, and important changes in Malta as a result.
