A Celebration of Talent, Effort and Spirit

On Thursday, May 8th, the St Gerald’s De La Salle community gathered to celebrate the diverse achievements of our students across academics, sports, creativity, leadership, and service. The event served not only as a celebration of success but also as an affirmation of the values that define life at St. Gerald’s DLS College.

Our guest speaker, Warren Atkins, brought both inspiration and heart to the occasion. A past pupil of SGC, Warren has gone on to become an Emmy Award-winning television producer, best known for his work alongside his brother Simon on shows like Strictly Come Dancing, The Voice, First Dates, and The Traitors US. From Castlebar to global TV studios, Warren’s journey is a powerful reminder of where talent, belief, and perseverance can lead.

In his address, Warren spoke candidly about the challenges he has faced along the way and how the lessons he learned during his time at St. Gerald’s—particularly about resilience, facing fears, and the value of kindness—have stayed with him throughout his career. His message, especially about being kind not only to others but to ourselves, struck a deep chord with all present. It was a standout moment in a day already filled with pride and positivity.

A highlight of the ceremony was a special live performance by our retiring Deputy Principal, Mr. Declan Askin, and his band Códa. It was a fitting tribute to Mr. Askin’s deep connection to our school community and his many years of service.

Throughout the ceremony, awards were presented to students in recognition of their dedication, growth, and spirit across a wide range of areas:

·         Academic Distinction and Progress

·         Outstanding Contributions in sport and extracurricular activities

·         Creative Achievements in music, art, writing, and design

·         Leadership and Service, including peer mentoring and school involvement

·         And the all-important Spirit of SGC Awards—honouring kindness, positivity, and resilience

Congratulations to all awardees and participants—your hard work, good character, and commitment help shape the vibrant, inclusive community we’re proud to call St. Gerald’s College.
