Creative way to ‘Ignite’ faith at St Augustine’s
At St. Augustine's Catholic College, Trowbridge, we began a little group called 'Ignite' in the summer term of 2024. The focus of the group has been raising the profile of our Catholic Life across the College in ways visible to staff and students.
So far we have had as many as 15 students after school and now we have moved the group to lunchtime, we hope many more will be able to join us.
Students have spanned the different KS3 year groups, with occasional KS4 students! Our projects have included: gilding a large San Damiano cross and wooden sculpture of St Augustine for display in the main hall, signage over doorways with chalk pens 'Let us remember we are in the Holy Presence of God.', and right now we are working on a Laudato Si garden.
Other projects have included a Christmas Tree festival, displays about Carlo Acutis in our dining hall and Chapel as well as art and craft projects including Easter cards to our nearby elderly care home.
Students have really enjoyed time together, and each meeting finishes with a little story and prayer. We very much hope to be able to share more progress in the months to come.
