Retreat centre enjoy trips to Glendalough
Over the last few months at De La Salle Retreat Centre Dublin, we have seen our student numbers grow to the point where we are turning schools away, especially during the first half of the school academic year. We are now at full capacity except for the month of June when schools have exams.
In the last month alone, we have had six schools in Glendalough , from 6th class to 6th year students and we were blessed by a beautiful sunshine in one of Ireland’s most glorious beauty spots and sacred place.
Last month we had a young student Sarah in with us who had a physical and intellectual disability. On arrival we as a team arranged a special room on the ground floor for Sarah who needed wheelchair access. Sarah left a lasting impression on us all. She had a smile that lit up the room and an intoxicating laugh that brought a strong sense of excitement and happiness to the retreat day.
Sarah found it difficult to communicate verbally, however we were all deeply touched by how caring and accepting her class mates were towards her. Throughout the day the students in her class acknowledged her presence and treated here with dignity and kindness. Sarah particularly loved the affirmation exercise and the burning of prayers outside. Occasions like these puts life into perspective and underscores the immeasurable value of retreats in the lives of young people.
