Senior School learn what it means to ‘Be Lasallian’

Form 1 students at De La Salle College Malta Senior School discovered what it means to “Be Lasallian” — one LEGO brick at a time.

During the ‘Be Lasallian’ sessions organised by the DLS Chaplaincy, students used only LEGO blocks to explore how faith, creativity, and teamwork can build a strong, loving community — just as St John Baptist de La Salle did with his first schools.

Each group brought their ideas to life through creative builds — bridges of connection, towers of faith, and a shared Nativity scene — reminding us that Jesus’ humble birth continues to inspire love and unity today.

Every structure told a story of collaboration, inclusion, and hope, showing that when we build together—with hearts full of faith—we create more than models; we build community and love.

Form 4 Be Lasallians

Form 4 students became messengers of hope. In their first ‘Be Lasallian’ Formation session, organised by the DLS Chaplaincy, our students explored what it means to plant seeds of hope in a world that often focuses on challenges and negativity.

Through the interactive “Hope Headlines” activity, students created their own inspiring news stories — imagining a world where kindness, peace, inclusion, and faith make the front page. Their creative headlines reminded us that hope grows through small acts of love, courage, and compassion — just as St John Baptist de La Salle sowed hope through his mission to educate and uplift others.

The session encouraged everyone to look beyond the problems of today and to see themselves as hope-bringers — Lasallians called to make a difference through positivity, empathy, and action.

Form 5 Sports Day

The Form 5 Sports Day of this scholastic year which was held on Friday October 31st was won by Form 5 Blues. The Blues won with a total of 85 points. The Yellows finished in second place with 73 points followed by the Greens in 3rd place with 72 points, whilst the Reds finished in 4th place with 60 points. Thanks for everyone who gave a big helping hand for this event to be successful.

Creativity Meets Technology

Our Form 5 students have been busy during their ICT lessons, exploring GIMP software as part of their preparation for the ICDL certification. These amazing posters were designed entirely by our students, showcasing their digital design skills while embracing our theme—“All Connected”—and living out our Lasallian spirit of creativity, collaboration, and community.

Thank You from Europa Donna Malta

Europa Donna Malta would like to express heartfelt thanks to the staff of De La Salle College for their generous contribution towards breast cancer awareness.

The activity, coordinated by the DLS Chaplaincy, helped raise an impressive €302.98 in support of Europa Donna Malta’s ongoing initiatives to raise awareness and provide support to those affected by breast cancer.

Sincere thanks to everyone who took part and contributed to this meaningful cause.

Robotics Club

During our midday break Robotics Club, the members had an incredible time creating a step counter using the Microbit. It was fascinating to dive into the technology behind our smartwatches and see it in action.

Students also got hands-on with the brand-new mBot 2, the latest model packed with cool features like AI and tons of sensors. Our challenge? Programming it to perform a synchronised dance—and it did not disappoint.

We meet every Wednesday and all senior school Lasallians are welcome to join—no experience needed. We learn together through each other's mistakes and have a blast doing it.

DLS Chaplaincy Blood Drive 2025: A Gift of Life

The De La Salle Chaplaincy united our Lasallian community in faith and service through our Blood Donation Drive. Guided by our Lasallian Core Principles—Faith in the Presence of God, Concern for the Poor and Social Justice, Respect for All Persons, Quality Education, and Inclusive Community—we celebrated what it truly means to be connected as one Lasallian family.

We are grateful to share that 18 bags of blood were collected today—18 generous acts that can touch up to 54 lives. A single blood bag can help save up to three patients, as it is processed into red blood cells, plasma, and platelets, each serving different medical needs.

Red blood cells support trauma patients, platelets aid those battling cancer, and plasma helps control severe bleeding. Each donation is a ripple of hope, compassion, and life. Our heartfelt thanks go to all donors, volunteers, and partners who made this meaningful event possible. Your generosity embodies the Lasallian spirit of faith, service, and communion.

Intercultural Exchange

On Wednesday November 12th, students from Ritsumeikan High School, Japan, were warmly hosted at De La Salle College in Birgu for a vibrant intercultural exchange programme. The event featured a rich mix of cultural sharing — including a martial arts exhibition, traditional Japanese dance, and a Maltese presentation titled Il-Festa Maltija, complete with music, props, and a live performance by our school band.

Students from both schools took part in creative workshops on origami and calligraphy, followed by guided tours of the College. The morning concluded with a closing ceremony and refreshments featuring Maltese favourites such as pastizzi, qassatat, sausage rolls, and imqaret. It was a truly inspiring morning celebrating friendship, learning, and cultural understanding between Japan and Malta. A heartfelt thank you to all students, teachers, and organisers who made this day possible!

Form 4 French

Our Form 4 French students had the wonderful opportunity to meet students from St Germain de Charonne, De La Salle in Paris.

They took part in an Escape Room–style game, enjoyed a fun trivia challenge, and had plenty of time to socialise and make new friends. A fantastic cultural exchange experience.

Remembrance

Our Junior and Senior School communities, led by DLS Chaplaincy, joined together in support of the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal, helping raise funds for veterans, serving personnel, and their families who rely on the Legion’s essential care and support.

As a Lasallian school, we continue to live out our Core Principles—Respect for All Persons, Concern for the Poor and Socially Marginalised, and Inclusive Community. Through their generosity and kindness, our students reflected these values with pride, showing gratitude for those who have served and compassion for those who continue to need our help.

This year’s theme, “All Is Connected,” reminds us that every act of giving strengthens the bonds between us. By contributing to the Poppy Appeal, our pupils, staff, and Chaplaincy team became part of a wider community of remembrance, support, and hope for the future.

Together, we honour. Together, we serve. Together, we are connected.

Form 4 boys football

The Form 4 boys football team delivered an excellent performance in the Inter-Schools Qualifiers held at St. Aloysius. The team topped their group following a series of disciplined and well-executed matches. In the semi-finals, they produced what was arguably their strongest performance of the tournament, demonstrating commendable teamwork, resilience, and determination.

As a result of their efforts, the team successfully qualified for the finals, which will be held later in the scholastic year.

Well done to the players and all staff on this achievement.

ICT Lessons in Form 1

Our Form 1 students embarked on an engaging journey into the world of coding by tackling a delicious project: making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

Through this fun activity, students learned to break down the sandwich-making process into clear, sequential steps, mimicking the logic of coding. They wrote out the steps, which introduced them to the foundational concepts of flow charts. This hands-on approach not only made coding relatable but also set the stage for them to translate their ideas into actual code for robots to complete a task.

It’s amazing to see how creativity and technology come together, fostering critical thinking and problem-solving skills in our young learners. Keep up the great work, future coders.

The History, Geography and European Studies students visited the Heritage Malta Careers Fair 2025 where they got the opportunity to observe possible career opportunities: game development, conservation and digitalisation, marketing and the underwater heritage unit.

Thank you to our teaching staff that dedicate so much time and care to all our students.

European Studies

Form 3 European Studies have been practising the EU Member States on an interactive map where they have to select which European countries are members of the European Union.

Exciting Form 1 ICT C3 lessons

Our students teamed up to assemble robots, diving hands-on into the world of coding and robotics. After building their robots, they carefully documented each step of the assembly process, strengthening their problem-solving and teamwork skills. It's amazing to see young minds collaborate and bring technology to life.

Hospitality Students

Form 3 and Form 4 VET Hospitality students visited the Phoenicia Hotel, where they learned about various hotel job roles as well as key health and safety features. They also enjoyed a guided tour of the hotel, which highlighted the sustainable practices implemented throughout the property.

Sports Day

The Form 4 Sports Day of this scholastic year which was held on Tuesday 18th November was won by Form 4 Greens. The Green won with a total of 98 points. The Yellows finished in second place with 95 points followed by the Blues in 3rd place with 88 points whilst the Reds finished in 4th place with 76 points. Thanks for everyone who gave a big helping hand for this event to be successful.

Movember

As part of our ongoing commitment to social responsibility and wellbeing, our school participated in Movember—a global initiative that raises awareness about men’s health, including mental health, prostate cancer and testicular cancer.

To support this important cause, the DLS Chaplaincy organised a toiletries collection drive, following once again our All Connected theme and the Lasallian Core Principles of Respect for All Persons, Inclusive Community and Concern for the Poor and Socially Marginalised.

This initiative was carried out in collaboration with HSBC Bank Malta plc, who will be distributing all collected items to various NGOs supporting vulnerable individuals within our community.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who contributed so generously. Your kindness and solidarity help promote awareness, dignity and support for those who need it most—truly living out our shared values.

Active Ageing Centre

A group of our Form 3 students visited the Active Ageing Centre in Siġġiewi as part of the voluntary work organised by the DLS Chaplaincy, in line with our All Connected theme and the Lasallian Core Principles of Respect for All Persons, Inclusive Community and Concern for the Poor and Socially Marginalised.

Active Ageing Centres offer older adults opportunities to remain physically, mentally and socially active, providing a welcoming space for connection, learning and shared experiences.
During the visit, our students:
- created Christmas crafts
- spoke with the elderly
- tried their hand at knitting
- sang and danced together with the residents

It was a heart-warming and meaningful experience, where students and seniors shared moments of joy, companionship and mutual learning—truly embodying what it means to be All Connected.
A big well done to all involved for embracing these values and representing our school community so positively.
