Educational outings for St Benildus students

Third year students at St Benildus College Dublin went on two educational trips this month to help with their preparation for the mock exams: Butler’s Chocolate Factory and The Merchant of Venice.

On Tuesday January 20th, third-year classes visited Butler’s Chocolate Factory as part of their exam case study. Upon arrival, they were welcomed by a tour guide who brought them through the factory and explained how Butler’s chocolates are made, as well as the history of the company.

One of the highlights of the trip was decorating their own chocolate elephants using white chocolate, which they were able to take home afterwards. Overall, it was an enjoyable experience that successfully combined learning with a fun, hands-on activity.

On Wednesday the 21st, students attended a live performance of Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice at the Mill Theatre in Dundrum. The production was of excellent quality. While the costumes were simple, the strong acting and clear storytelling made the play engaging and easy to follow. Students returned to school with a much better understanding of the play. Both trips were valuable, enjoyable, and a welcome break from the classroom.

Senior rugby

Our senior rugby team achieved a major milestone this season by qualifying for the Vinnie Murray Cup for the first time. The team put in a determined performance against St. Fintan’s on January 7th in what proved to be a tough and physical encounter. Although the match ended in defeat, the players showed outstanding resilience, commitment, and teamwork throughout.

Having earned their place in the competition through consistent hard work and dedication, the boys once again demonstrated their character on the pitch. They battled right to the final whistle, never giving up despite the challenging circumstances. Their attitude and work rate were a credit to themselves and to the school.

While the result did not go their way on the day, reaching the Vinnie Murray Cup is a significant achievement for the team and reflects the progress made by senior rugby in the school. The players can be extremely proud of their efforts, and the entire school community congratulates them on this historic achievement.
