Lasallians remember a special time at Castletown
As special reunion of Lasallians was held in Castletown on August 29th as former students gathered to celebrate their time at the Junior School.
The event, organised by MEL Ireland, saw former students from all over the country returned to the venue where they met up with old friends and recalled some wonderful times.
Paul Kerrigan, who attended the Juniorate in Castletown from 1977 to 1980, reflected on a memorable day with many former students and the memories the occasion evoked.
I had the pleasure of going to school at Castletown Portlaoise, which provided me with three years of memories, brilliant education, and every sport you could think of.
As the years have passed I realised the profound effect Castletown has had on my life. I can honestly say my time there shaped the man I became. That's all thanks to the dedication of the Brothers who worked tirelessly during our time there. As students, we had school six days a week, half days Wednesday and Saturday, these were also the days we had sports - from the GAA sports to soccer, handball, cross country running and so on. We studied in the study hall six nights a week with Sunday being movie night. Brother Daniel or Eugene was the projectionist and the best movie I remember was The Godfather.
Our time in Castletown came and went so fast, so many happy memories there and lifetime friendships made. All these memories resurfaced at the reunion, it was so well organised, and it was so nice to catch up with my old class mates. We had such a laugh, so thank you so much.
To the Brothers of Castletown and beyond, we are forever in your debt. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. The memories and kindness will never be forgotten. To the Brothers of Miguel House, enjoy your hard earned retirement, and thank you from students past, finally thanks to the organisers, and staff off Castletown we bid you farewell till we meet again.
