St Benildus celebrates: One Heart, One School, One Family

To begin the new academic year, the school community at St Benildus College Dublin came together for our Opening Year Prayer Service. Centred on the theme of community, the service reflected the heart of our school’s identity through the inspiring slogan: "One Heart, One School, One Family."

Students from all six-year groups, along with teachers and staff, took part in leading and supporting the service. From readings and reflections to music and symbolic actions, every contribution reflected the shared commitment and connection that bind us together. The prayer service offered a meaningful moment to pause, reflect, and renew our sense of belonging. It reminded us that we are not just individuals passing through the year—but part of one community, united in purpose and care.

Northern Irish war memorial visits Benildus

On Thursday October 16th the Northern Irish War Memorial came to our school to launch resources for Junior Cycle and Leaving Certificate History on World War II and the Belfast Blitz. This included a new website they had been working on which provided multiple audio sources for the Belfast Blitz. The Leaving Cert History students were in attendance including students from other schools and special guests such as Department of Foreign Affairs reconciliation fund joint director Peadar Ó Lamhna. Dublin Fire Brigade Historian Las Fallon gave a talk on the firefighters who went to Belfast from Dublin in 1941.

The talk was remarkably interesting getting to hear the stories of families who were affected by the Belfast blitz from the NIWM’s audio sources.

In conclusion, this event was phenomenally successful thanks to the work put in by Ms. Downey and the history team.

Open Day

Well done to all the St. Benildus College students who assisted during the annual college Open Day which took place on Tuesday September 30th. The Open Day was a massive success. We enjoyed record numbers as hundreds of visitors passed through the school whilst classes were proceeding as normal guided by our brilliant TY students. It’s a credit to everyone in the College Community that such a unique event can take place during a normal school day.

It was a real team effort with Tour Guides busy all day and others on car park duty, reception, the College kitchen, questionnaires, Run for Life plus various tables (20 in total) in the Hall representing aspects of College life.

Roll on 2026 and an even bigger and better day.
